Marquez's Mexico wins the Gold Cup
June 25, 2011

The United States blew a 2:0 lead, losing to Mexico 4:2 in the Gold Cup final. Rafael Marquez captained Mexico, but was forced to leave the game in the first half with a hamstring pull.

Juan Agudelo made an appearance for the US in the second half. Tim Ream did not feature in the final. Ex-Metro Michael Bradley opened the scoring.

Marquez becomes the third Metro to win the Gold Cup during his tenure on the team. He follows Clint Mathis and Richie Williams, who won the tournament in 2002 (Williams was traded away soon after).
